One of the most anticipated and hyped games of 2022, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, seems to be doing really well on Steam.
Although MW2 is scheduled to come out late next month, Activision decided to kick off the game with early access to the campaign.
Only players who preorder the game can access Modern Warfare 2’s campaign. This move from Activision will allow players to complete the MW2 campaign before multiplayer and co-op modes launch on October 28.
The hype surrounding Modern Warfare 2 has been great. Activision offered open beta access in early September this year so that the developers could get real-time feedback from gamers. According to Call of Duty’s official blog post, the beta was so successful that it went ahead and became the biggest beta launch in Call of Duty’s history.
MW2’s story takes place right after the events of the wildly successful 2019 Call of Duty Modern Warfare. It follows the journey and adventure of Captain Price along with other members of the famous Task Force 141.
Players who complete the Modern Warfare 2 campaign before the game’s full release will get bonuses, including cosmetic items, XP boosts, four operators, and more.
According to SteamDB, the game managed to hit nearly 100k all-time peak players. Call of Duty Modern Warefare 2 is currently the third most successful Call of Duty game in terms of all-time peak player count.
The numbers are insane, considering the fact that the game has not even been fully released yet. Based on the stats, Modern Warfare 2 is on track to surpass 100k concurrent players upon its release. At the time of this writing, the game has managed to rack up more than 72k peak players in the last 24 hours.
After more than five years of absence, the Call of Duty franchise has finally returned to Steam with Modern Warfare 2. The last Call of Duty game released on the platform was 2017’s World War 2.
The file size of Modern Warfare 2 is surprisingly small compared to its predecessors. According to a recent Call of Duty blog post, the game will supposedly occupy 72GB of space on PC and 43 GB on PS5 (base game).
The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and X box series X/S upon full release.
