Despite some significant hiccups, Overwatch 2 has been an excellent success for Blizzard Entertainment. The free-to-play shooter attracted over 25 million players within ten days of its launch.
The news came from Overwatch’s official Twitter account. The company thanked all players who helped them to reach this incredible milestone.

Overwatch president Mike Ybarra said,
The launch of Overwatch 2 has been such an important moment for Blizzard. We’re thrilled to bring new players from around the world into Overwatch’s vibrant universe while welcoming back the existing Blizzard community. This is only the beginning—there are so many possibilities to explore in the world of Overwatch, and we cannot wait for players to experience everything the team is building for the live game.
Blizzard also announced in a press release that Overwatch 2 managed to “nearly triple” the daily players compared to its predecessor. Blizzard claimed Overwatch 2’s player base is spread “near-even” across America, EMEA, and Asia.
Seeing a game do so well despite a rocky launch is very encouraging. The game was unplayable at launch because of facing multiple DDoS attacks. Players lucky enough to log in were forced to wait in long queues; sometimes, the line went as long as 40000 people. Many gamers encountered numerous game-breaking bugs that led Blizzard to disable several heroes.
Judging by the numbers, it is fair to say that the latest iteration of Overwatch has been well-received by gamers.
Despite facing countless issues, gamers stayed loyal to the franchise. Blizzard will reward all players with the new Cursed Captain Reaper skin and Health Pack weapons charm as a token of appreciation. Players who log into the game from 25th October to the end of this season can claim the rewards.
Blizzard has also confirmed the dates for the upcoming double XP weekends. The dates are as follows;
- Starting 21st October at 11.00 a.m PT, ending 24th October at 11.00 a.m PT
- Starting 28th October at 11.00 a.m PT, ending 31st October at 11.00 a.m PT
- Starting 24th November at 11.00 a.m PT, ending 28th November at 11.00 a.m PT
Overwatch 2 is available to play on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
