Activision Blizzard’s latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty Modern: Warfare 2, has now crossed the $1 billion revenue mark. This is the second game in the COD series to achieve this huge milestone.
The news came from a press release posted on Business Wire. The media company also revealed that Modern Warfare 2 players had played 1 billion matches and spent 200 million hours in-game across PlayStation, PC and Xbox since its release.
The last COD game to cross $1 billion in sales was Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, another famous title from Activision. It reached the $1 billion figure within 12 days of its launch in 2012.
Modern Warfare 2, on the other hand, only took ten days to reach this massive goal making it the fastest game in the COD franchise ever to break the $1 billion sales figure.
Fans seem to love the latest first-person shooter from Activision, as it keeps breaking multiple records consistently. The game saw the biggest opening in the series not long ago.
Modern Warfare 2’s success was apparent judging by its first opening weekend. The game made $800 million in just three days of launch, breaking 2011 Modern Warfare 3’s record by quite some margin.
People at Activision are unsurprisingly happy about this record-breaking success. Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick shared his thoughts on this commercial success. He said,

According to gaming analyst DomsPlaying, COD MW 2 is currently the second fastest game to reach $1 billion in revenue, only behind Rockstar Game’s GTA V which reached the $1 billion mark within only three days of launch.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is shaping up to become the highest-grossing game of 2022. The company wishes to continue its success with the upcoming release of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0.
