There is “currently nothing to say,” according to Xbox Head Phil Spencer, regarding Platinum Games’ publicly expressed wish to bring back its shelved exclusive Scalebound.
Scalebound is possibly one of the most infamous Xbox projects. Hideki Kamiya, the director of Bayonetta, had planned to release the Xbox One game in 2014 as a character-driven action title. However, after a protracted time of development, the game was shelved in 2017.
In February, Kamiya said to IGN Japan that he wanted to talk with Microsoft about the project’s possibility of being formally revived. Kamiya said:
We did a lot of work on it, and it’s no use Microsoft keeping the game in its current form, so we’d like to do something about it. Phil! Let’s do it together!
Spencer had provided a direct response when questioned about the possibility of the revival of Scalebound in 2020, “For the people out there thinking that maybe there’s something still in the works: there’s not”. Xbox CEO Spencer has now been questioned about the possible revival of Scalebound again, but he repeated “There is currently nothing to say about Scalebound.”
Sir I’m a huge fan of you. I really love your article.
