The Callisto Protocol has gone Gold ahead of its December release

One of the most anticipated games of 2022, The Calisto Protocol, is finally going gold. Gamers speculate that the title will be one of the major ones to release this year.

The announcement came from Callisto Protocol’s official Twitter account. The company shared its excitement and thanked everyone for their support.

Going gold means the game is almost finished and ready to hit the masses. It is a massive milestone in a game’s development. The Callisto Protocol is ready to hit the shelf ahead of its December launch date.

In the olden days, going gold referred to printing any game on a gold master disc which was then used to reproduce and manufacture copies of the said game. That’s where the term “going gold” came from.

The Callisto Protocol is a third-person survival horror game. Players will fight off zombie-like creatures in a claustrophobic environment. The game takes place on Jupiter’s moon Callisto in a prison colony named Black iron.

Initially, the Callisto Protocol was announced as part of the PUBG universe. But CEO and founder of Striking Distance Studios, Glen Schofield, announced in May on a Twitter post that the game has “its own story and world.”

The game will portray scores of gore and violence throughout the gameplay. Real-life gruesome car wrecks inspired many of Callisto Protocol’s death animations.

The Calisto Protocol is reported to come with many modern amenities like ray tracing and AI-aided realistic lighting. Players will also have the option to enjoy the game in 60 FPS performance mode on consoles.

According to Callisto’s developers, the game will take between 12 to 14 hours to complete. Although it is relatively shorter compared to modern AAA titles, the director said the game would feature “beta-paths” and offer players much replay value.

The Callisto Protocol is scheduled to release on December 2, 2022. It will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
