Santa Monica Studio addresses God of War Ragnarok leaks

One of the most anticipated games of 2022, God of War Ragnarok, is now less than two weeks away from launch. Sony has already distributed the games to retailers. Unfortunately, some of the distributors have broken the embargo on the release date and sold copies of GOW Ragnarok before its launch.

Yesterday, game developer Santa Monica Studio released an official statement on Twitter concerning the leaks. The company is understandably not happy with the situation. It aims to “preserve the experience of players” who wants to play the game for the first time.

The company urged gamers to refrain from searching any keywords or hashtags related to the game to avoid spoilers. The studio is confident that the game will be worth the wait when it comes out on time.

Santa Monica also requested individuals who have already been spoiled either accidentally or intentionally not to spread the leak any further. The studio is trying its best to contain the leak and minimize the damage that has already been done.

God of war Ragnarok leaks emerged on the internet almost a week ago. Someone with early access to the game “accidentally” shared crucial plots of the game on Twitter.

But now, the situation seems to have got even worse. Many people are reportedly sharing clips on video websites and social media revealing the entirety of GOW Ragnarok’s gameplay. Santa Monica will probably remove the shared gameplay footages using DMCA takedowns.

This type of massive leak is unacceptable as it genuinely takes the fun away from players who want to enjoy the game upon release. We also saw another video game giant, Rockstar Games suffering from GTA 6’s leak a month ago.

Creative director of Santa Monica Studio, Cory Barlog, went on Twitter and shared his frustration about the leaks. Cory expressed his disappointment towards retailers who would sell the game nearly two weeks before its release.

God of War Ragnarok is a direct sequel to the 2018 game and features the adventures of Kratos and his son Atreus. The game is rumored to take 40 hours to complete.

GOW Ragnarok is scheduled to release on November 5 as a PlayStation exclusive. The game will only release on PS4 and PS5, with the possibility of a future PC release.
