With the upcoming 2.5 patch comes a brand-new “experimental” feature called Terror Zones, which has been included in Diablo 2: Resurrected’s public test realm.
Throughout the years, Diablo II: Resurrected has seen numerous changes. The game’s Mercenaries were modified, new Rune Words were added, and significant class balance changes were made for the first time in more than ten years in the patch 2.4. Patch 2.5 takes things a step further by giving players a completely new strategy for reaching level 99; the highest possible level.
A Terror Zone scenario will be present in a few specific zones across the five acts of Diablo 2 Resurrected at the start of every hour. For the duration of this hour, swarms of over leveled demons will spawn in those certain zones as regular opponents. This level increase scales with both the difficulty you’re playing on and the rarity of the specific demon, with these demons spawning two to five levels stronger than your current level resulting in a higher XP yield than the usual.
When Terror Zones are activated, players will be informed through in-game chat about the zones and chapters that include the demons. To provide some diversity to the usually repetitive grind, Terror Zones encourages players to play the old contents again and bring variety in the way they level up. Terror Zones can be toggled off if players prefer to focus on killing Baal, the lord of destruction rather than fighting randomly appearing demons.
